Emissions Schedule
The predetermined rate and timeline at which a protocol issues new tokens.
An emissions schedule is the predetermined rate and timeline at which new tokens are issued by a protocol — for example, as mining or staking rewards, or as ongoing incentive distributions — and is a core part of understanding a token's long-term supply dynamics.
A protocol's emissions schedule may be fixed and permanent, or subject to change through governance, depending on its specific design.
Examples
- A high emissions schedule relative to demand can put ongoing downward pressure on a token's price.
- Some protocols' emissions schedules are fixed by code; others can be changed through governance.
