Bonding
Locking up staked assets, often with a waiting period before they're actively earning or usable.
Bonding generally refers to the process of locking up assets as stake, often subject to a waiting period before they become fully active and eligible to earn staking rewards on some networks.
This waiting period gives a network time to process the new stake and update its validator set in an orderly way.
Examples
- A newly bonded validator might need to wait through a bonding period before actively earning rewards.
- Bonding periods exist to let a network update its validator set in an orderly, predictable way.
