Candlestick
A chart element showing an asset's open, high, low, and close price for a fixed time period.
A candlestick is a single chart element that shows four prices for one fixed time period: the open, the high, the low, and the close. Its thick body spans the open-to-close range, and its thin wicks mark the high and low actually reached during the period.
A series of candlesticks forms a candlestick chart, one of the most common ways price history is displayed in crypto and traditional trading alike. See Kaavon's "How to Read a Candlestick Chart" guide for the full anatomy and common single-candle patterns.
Examples
- A green (or white) candlestick typically means the close was above the open for that period; a red (or black) one means the opposite.
- A longer candlestick body reflects a bigger price move between open and close during that period.
