Coinbase Transaction
The special first transaction in a block that issues newly created cryptocurrency to the miner.
A coinbase transaction is the special first transaction included in a proof-of-work block, which creates new cryptocurrency and pays it, along with collected transaction fees, to whoever successfully mined that block.
Unlike ordinary transactions, a coinbase transaction has no sender — it's how new supply actually enters circulation.
Examples
- A miner's block reward is paid out through that block's coinbase transaction.
- The coinbase transaction is the only transaction in a block with no corresponding sender.
