Cross-Chain Bridge
A system that lets assets or data move between two different blockchain networks.
A cross-chain bridge is infrastructure that allows assets or information to move between two otherwise separate blockchain networks, which don't natively communicate with each other.
Bridges typically work by locking an asset on the original chain and minting a corresponding representation on the destination chain, or by using another mechanism to coordinate the transfer.
Examples
- A cross-chain bridge might let a user move a token from Ethereum to a different Layer 1 network.
- Bridge security is an important consideration, since bridges have historically been a target for exploits.
