DEX Aggregator
A platform that searches across many decentralized exchanges and liquidity sources to find and execute the best available price for a given swap.
A DEX aggregator is a platform that searches across many separate decentralized exchanges and other on-chain liquidity sources to find the best available combined price for a user's desired swap, often splitting a single trade across multiple venues simultaneously if doing so achieves a better overall price than routing the entire trade through just one. This helps traders avoid needing to manually check prices across many individual DEXs themselves to find the best execution.
DEX aggregators are especially valuable for larger trades, where splitting an order across several pools can meaningfully reduce price impact (see Kaavon's "Price Impact" glossary definition) compared to routing the full size through a single pool with limited depth. Many DEX aggregators also let users set a slippage tolerance (see Kaavon's "Slippage Tolerance" glossary definition) to protect against unfavorable price movement between when a trade is submitted and when it actually executes on-chain.
Examples
- A DEX aggregator might split a large swap across three different liquidity pools simultaneously, achieving a better combined price than routing the entire trade through just one pool.
- Using a DEX aggregator saves a trader from needing to manually check prices across many individual decentralized exchanges to find the best available execution.
