Gwei
A small denomination of ETH commonly used to express Ethereum gas prices.
Gwei is a unit of ETH equal to one billionth of a single ETH, used because gas prices are typically far too small a fraction of ETH to express conveniently in whole units.
Wallets and block explorers commonly display gas prices in gwei to make transaction fee estimates easier to read and compare.
Examples
- A wallet might show an estimated gas price of 25 gwei for a pending transaction.
- Gwei makes small gas-price differences easier to read than expressing them as tiny fractions of ETH.
