Hash Rate
A measure of how much computing power is being used to mine a network.
Hash rate measures how much total computing power is being applied to mine a proof-of-work network, expressed as the number of hash calculations performed per second.
A higher overall network hash rate generally makes the network more resistant to attack, since it would require even more computing power for any single party to gain outsized control.
Examples
- A rising network hash rate is often cited as a sign of growing miner participation.
- Hash rate and mining difficulty are closely related and tend to move together over time.
