Max Supply
The absolute maximum number of coins or tokens that will ever exist.
Max supply is the absolute upper limit on how many units of a given cryptocurrency can ever be created, as defined by the protocol's own rules.
Not every cryptocurrency has a max supply; some are designed with no hard cap at all, allowing ongoing issuance indefinitely under their own rules.
Examples
- Bitcoin has a max supply of 21 million coins, enforced by its protocol.
- A cryptocurrency without a max supply can continue issuing new units according to its own rules.
