Minting
The process of creating a new token or NFT and recording it on-chain for the first time.
Minting is the process of creating a new token or NFT and recording its existence and ownership on a blockchain for the first time, distinct from a later secondary-market purchase of an already-minted item.
Minting generally requires paying a network transaction fee, in addition to whatever price (if any) the project itself charges.
Examples
- A collector minting a new NFT directly from the project is creating it on-chain for the first time.
- Minting requires a network transaction fee in addition to any mint price the project sets.
