Points Program
A system awarding non-transferable points for using a protocol, generally intended to track eligibility for a future token airdrop without yet promising one.
A points program awards non-transferable points to users for interacting with a protocol — depositing funds, trading, or other specific actions — generally intended to track activity for potential eligibility toward a future token airdrop (see Kaavon's "Airdrop Farming" glossary definition), without the protocol explicitly promising a token or a specific conversion rate.
Because a points program typically makes no binding commitment about a future token or its value, the points themselves carry real, meaningful uncertainty — a large points balance has no guaranteed outcome, and some protocols' points programs have ended without any token ever actually launching.
Examples
- A user might accumulate points by depositing funds into a protocol, hoping — but with no guarantee — that the points later convert into a valuable token airdrop.
- Some protocols' points programs have ended without any token ever actually launching, a real, documented outcome worth weighing against the hoped-for payoff.
