Priority Fee
An optional additional fee paid to a validator to prioritize a transaction.
A priority fee (sometimes called a "tip") is an optional amount added on top of the base fee, paid directly to the validator who includes a transaction, generally to encourage faster or prioritized inclusion.
During periods of high network demand, offering a higher priority fee can help a transaction get included more quickly.
Examples
- A wallet's "fast" transaction speed option typically sets a higher priority fee than the "standard" option.
- Unlike the base fee, the priority fee goes to the validator rather than being burned.
