Proof of History
A method for cryptographically ordering events before consensus, used alongside proof of stake on some networks.
Proof of history is a technique for cryptographically encoding the passage of time and the order of events before formal consensus is reached, letting validators agree on ordering more efficiently.
It's used alongside, not instead of, a separate consensus mechanism (such as proof of stake) that handles actual agreement on network state.
Examples
- A network combining proof of history with proof of stake can process transactions with high throughput.
- Proof of history addresses transaction ordering, not the full consensus process on its own.
