Replace-By-Fee
A Bitcoin feature letting a sender rebroadcast an unconfirmed transaction with a higher fee.
Replace-By-Fee (RBF) lets a sender rebroadcast a still-unconfirmed Bitcoin transaction with a higher fee, replacing the original, to increase the chance of faster inclusion in a block.
This is a practical tool for a transaction stuck with too low a fee during busy network periods, though not every wallet or transaction is configured to support it.
Examples
- A transaction stuck unconfirmed due to a low fee can sometimes be sped up using RBF.
- RBF must generally be enabled on the original transaction to be usable later.
