SegWit
A Bitcoin protocol upgrade that restructured transaction data to increase effective capacity.
Segregated Witness (SegWit) is a Bitcoin protocol upgrade that restructured how transaction signature data is stored, effectively increasing the number of transactions that fit in a block and fixing a technical issue called transaction malleability.
SegWit adoption also laid technical groundwork that later enabled further upgrades, including the Lightning Network's broader development.

- A Bitcoin address starting with "bc1" is typically a SegWit-compatible address.
- SegWit transactions are generally more space-efficient than pre-SegWit transaction formats.
