TRIX Indicator
The rate of change of a triple-smoothed exponential moving average, designed to filter out short-term price noise and minor trend fluctuations.
TRIX calculates the rate of change of a triple-smoothed exponential moving average (an EMA of an EMA of an EMA), oscillating around a zero line.
The triple smoothing is specifically intended to filter out short-term price noise and minor trend fluctuations more thoroughly than a single or double smoothing would, aiming to highlight only more significant underlying momentum shifts. See Kaavon's dedicated TRIX article for the full calculation.
Examples
- TRIX crossing above its zero line is commonly read as a signal that underlying momentum has turned positive.
- TRIX's triple-smoothing construction makes it slower to react than a single EMA, by design, specifically to filter out minor price noise.
