About this data

Prices and market data are Powered by CoinGecko, aggregated across the exchanges CoinGecko tracks — not the execution price of any single exchange. Kaavon attempts to refresh this data every 10 minutes; last refreshed 9:08 PM UTC.

Market cap uses circulating supply; fully diluted valuation (FDV) projects the market cap as if the maximum supply were already in circulation today — it is a valuation reference point, not a prediction of future market cap.

Project Overview

Sui is a Layer 1 blockchain, launched in 2023, built around an object-centric data model (rather than the account-based model common to many earlier platforms) specifically designed to enable parallel transaction processing for higher throughput.

Technology & Architecture

Because Sui tracks data as discrete objects rather than one shared global account state, transactions that don't touch the same objects can be processed in parallel rather than strictly one after another. Sui separates owned-object transactions (which can skip full consensus) from shared-object transactions (such as a DEX pool), which are ordered through Mysticeti — a directed-acyclic-graph consensus protocol live since July 2024 that orders shared-object transactions in roughly three message rounds, reportedly finalizing most activity in about 400 milliseconds. A 2026 upgrade ("Mysticeti v2," shipped from node version 1.60) moved transaction validation into the consensus layer itself, which one source reports cut full-node latency by roughly 35% in Asia and 25% in Europe. Sui smart contracts are written in Move, a language originally developed for the Diem project, designed with resource-oriented safety features intended to reduce certain classes of smart contract bugs.

Common mistake

Sui and Aptos are not the same project

Both networks share Move-language roots in Meta's discontinued Diem project, which leads some readers to assume they're related or interchangeable. They're independent, competing networks with their own separate teams, tokens, and architectures -- shared lineage, not a shared product.

Token Utility & Economics

SUI is used to pay gas fees for transactions and smart-contract execution, is staked by validators and delegators to participate in proof-of-stake consensus, and is used for on-chain governance decisions. Total supply is fixed at 10 billion SUI; one tracker estimated roughly 4.07 billion SUI in circulation as of August 31, 2026 (about 41% of the cap), entering circulation primarily through scheduled vesting unlocks rather than ongoing mining-style issuance. Staking rewards are drawn partly from a Storage Fund, which accumulates transaction storage fees as a separate, permanent source of validator rewards distinct from token issuance.

Governance

SUI holders participate in on-chain governance decisions, and in practice validators themselves have also voted on protocol-level responses to specific incidents — for example, validators voted to recover funds frozen after the Cetus exploit (2026), an unusual instance of validator-level governance intervening directly in an application-layer security incident rather than only voting on protocol upgrades.

Ecosystem & Adoption

Sui supports general-purpose smart contracts and has been used across gaming, DeFi, and other decentralized-application categories. Validator-count estimates for 2026 vary by source — one review cites 392 total nodes with 106 full validators, while a separate tracker counted 127 active validators in October 2026 — a real disagreement this profile discloses rather than resolves, since neither figure was independently verified against a live explorer.

Competitive Landscape

Sui competes with numerous other high-throughput Layer 1 networks pursuing similar performance goals through different technical approaches, and most directly with Aptos, which shares Sui's Move-language and Diem-project lineage but is an independent, competing network with its own validator set and tokenomics.

Security & Decentralization

Sui experienced three network halts on May 28–29, 2026, attributed to bugs introduced by a network upgrade; reporting on the incident states no user funds were lost or reversed. Staking-ratio estimates for 2026 also conflict: one source reports 65-75% of circulating SUI staked with real (inflation-adjusted) rewards slightly below zero, while another reports an APR of roughly 1.2-2.3% across 127 validators in October 2026 — again disclosed as a discrepancy rather than resolved.

Risks & Dependencies

  • Sui's object-centric data model and Mysticeti consensus are architecturally newer and less battle-tested in production than longer-established account-based designs, and experienced three real network halts in May 2026 from an upgrade-introduced bug.
  • The Move language reduces certain classes of smart-contract bugs by design but does not eliminate smart-contract risk entirely — the 2026 Cetus exploit required a validator-level governance intervention to recover frozen funds.
  • Reported validator counts (106-127, depending on source) and staking APR (1.2% to meaningfully negative in real terms, depending on source) conflict across 2026 reporting — treat any single figure as needing a live check against Sui's own explorer.
  • Sui competes with numerous other high-throughput Layer 1 networks pursuing similar performance goals through different technical approaches.

How this profile is maintained

Manually maintained educational profile. Research-grade pass (2026-11-04) added newly researched consensus-mechanism detail (Mysticeti), validator/staking figures, and 2026 incident history via WebSearch across multiple sources; figures that conflicted across sources are disclosed rather than reconciled into one number. No live market data is used.
