APY / APR Converter
Convert between a simple, non-compounded rate and a compounded rate at a chosen frequency.
What this tool does
Converts between a simple, non-compounded rate and a compounded rate at the frequency you enter.
Assumptions
Results use only the values you enter. They are estimates for education and planning, not investment advice or live market data.
How it's calculated
- APR → APY: APY = (1 + APR ÷ n)^n − 1
- APY → APR: APR = ((1 + APY)^(1 ÷ n) − 1) × n
- n = number of compounding periods per year; rates as decimals
Worked example
- APR: 10%
- Compounded daily (n = 365)
Result: APY 10.516%
Computed with this calculator's own formula.
How to read the result
APR is a simple annual rate; APY includes the effect of earning returns on earlier returns. The same 10% APR becomes a higher APY the more often it compounds — which is why two offers can't be compared until both are expressed the same way.
Limitations
- It assumes a constant rate and that returns are actually reinvested at each period, which variable DeFi and staking yields rarely deliver exactly.
- It doesn't account for fees, token-price changes, or rewards paid in a different token.
