Gas Cost Calculator
Convert a gas price and gas limit into an estimated ETH and USD transaction cost.
What this tool does
Converts a gas price and gas limit you enter into an estimated ETH and USD transaction cost.
Assumptions
Results use only the values you enter. They are estimates for education and planning, not investment advice or live market data.
How it's calculated
- Cost in ETH = gas price (gwei) × gas used ÷ 1,000,000,000
- Cost in USD = cost in ETH × ETH price
Worked example
- Gas price: 20 gwei
- Gas limit: 21,000 (a simple ETH transfer)
- ETH price: $3,000
Result: Cost 0.00042 ETH ≈ $1.26
Computed with this calculator's own formula.
How to read the result
A gwei is one-billionth of an ETH, which is why the formula divides by 1,000,000,000. Gas limit is the maximum computation a transaction may use; a simple ETH transfer uses exactly 21,000, while token swaps and other contract interactions use far more.
Limitations
- Since EIP-1559, the gas price you pay is the network's base fee plus your priority tip; enter their sum.
- You pay for gas actually used, which can be lower than the limit you set.
- Layer 2 networks price transactions differently, including a data cost for posting to Ethereum.
