How Liquidation Works on a Perpetual DEX, Step by Step →Liquidation Price →Isolated Margin →Maintenance Margin →Liquidation Price Calculator
Estimate a simplified liquidation price for a leveraged long or short position.
Estimates a simplified, isolated-margin liquidation price from your entry price, leverage, and maintenance margin.
Results use only the values you enter. They are estimates for education and planning, not investment advice or live market data.
How it's calculated
- Long: liquidation price = entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage + maintenance margin ÷ 100)
- Short: liquidation price = entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage − maintenance margin ÷ 100)
Worked example
- Long position
- Entry price: $60,000
- Leverage: 10×
- Maintenance margin: 0.5%
Result: Liquidation price $54,300.00 — 9.5% below entry
Computed with this calculator's own formula.
How to read the result
At 10× leverage your initial margin is 10% of the position, so a price move of roughly 10% against you would wipe it out; the maintenance margin requirement means liquidation happens a little earlier than that. The distance-to-liquidation figure is the cushion you have before forced closure.
Limitations
- This is a simplified isolated-margin estimate. Real exchanges also account for fees, funding payments, tiered maintenance margins for larger positions, and whether they use a mark price.
- In cross-margin mode, other positions and balance change the liquidation price.
- Fast markets can liquidate positions at worse prices than this estimate.
