Portfolio Beta Calculator
Calculate a weighted-average portfolio beta from up to three holdings.
What this tool does
Calculates a weighted-average portfolio beta from up to three holdings' weights and individual betas.
Assumptions
Results use only the values you enter. They are estimates for education and planning, not investment advice or live market data.
How it's calculated
- Portfolio beta = Σ (weight of holding ÷ 100 × beta of holding)
- Weights must total 100%
Worked example
- 50% in an asset with beta 1.0
- 30% in an asset with beta 1.5
- 20% in cash (beta 0)
Result: Portfolio beta 0.95
Computed with this calculator's own formula.
How to read the result
Beta measures how strongly a holding tends to move with a chosen benchmark: 1.0 moves in line with it, above 1.0 amplifies its moves, below 1.0 dampens them. A portfolio beta of 0.95 suggests the portfolio has historically moved slightly less than the benchmark.
Limitations
- Betas are historical estimates and change over time, especially in crypto.
- The result depends entirely on the benchmark and time period used to estimate each beta.
- Beta captures co-movement with the market, not total risk — an asset can have a low beta and still be very volatile.
