Attestation
A recorded, signed statement that a specific fact or event is true.
An attestation is a recorded, cryptographically signed statement made by a specific party that a fact or event is true — for example, that a reserve balance matches a claimed figure, or that a credential is valid.
The value of an attestation depends entirely on the trustworthiness and independence of whoever is making it.
Examples
- A stablecoin issuer's reserve attestation is a signed statement about the reserves it claims to hold.
- An attestation is only as trustworthy as the party making it.
