Reserve Attestation
A third-party report confirming a stablecoin issuer's reserves match its circulating supply.
A reserve attestation is a report, generally produced by an independent third party, confirming that a stablecoin issuer's actual held reserves match (or exceed) the value of tokens currently in circulation, as of a specific point in time.
The frequency, depth, and independence of these attestations vary meaningfully between issuers, and are a genuinely significant factor in assessing a fiat-collateralized stablecoin's real trustworthiness.
Examples
- A stablecoin issuer might publish a monthly reserve attestation from an independent accounting firm.
- A more frequent, more detailed reserve attestation generally provides stronger evidence of genuine backing.
