Decentralized Identity
An identity model where an individual controls their own credentials rather than a central authority.
Decentralized identity is an approach where individuals hold and control their own identity credentials directly (often in a personal digital wallet), rather than relying entirely on a central authority to issue and manage every credential.
It typically uses cryptographic proofs to let a credential be verified without necessarily revealing all of the underlying personal data behind it.
Examples
- A decentralized identity credential can be verified without necessarily sharing every underlying detail.
- This approach shifts control of identity data toward the individual rather than a central issuer alone.
