Linear Vesting
A vesting structure where tokens unlock gradually and continuously over a period, rather than all at once.
Linear vesting is a vesting structure (see Kaavon's "Vesting" glossary definition) where tokens unlock gradually and continuously over a defined period — for example, a fixed percentage unlocking every day or every month — rather than becoming available all at once.
Linear vesting is commonly used following an initial cliff period (see Kaavon's "Cliff Vesting" glossary definition), spreading out the remaining unlock schedule to avoid concentrating an entire allocation's unlock into a single date.
Examples
- A linear vesting schedule unlocking over 24 months releases a consistent, predictable fraction of the total allocation every month.
- Linear vesting spreads out token unlocks over time, reducing the sudden supply-growth impact a single large unlock date would otherwise create.
