Market Dominance
A specific asset's market cap as a percentage of the total crypto market's combined market cap.
Market dominance expresses a specific cryptocurrency's market cap as a percentage of the total combined market cap of all cryptocurrencies, commonly tracked for Bitcoin as a general indicator of relative market sentiment.
Rising dominance for one asset means its market cap is growing faster (or falling slower) than the broader market's total, not necessarily that its price is rising in absolute terms.
Examples
- Bitcoin dominance is commonly tracked as a general indicator of relative market sentiment toward Bitcoin versus other assets.
- Rising dominance reflects relative market cap growth, not necessarily absolute price appreciation.
