Timelock
A mandatory delay between a governance proposal passing and its actual execution.
A timelock is a mandatory delay enforced between a governance proposal being approved and its actual execution, giving the community a window to review, and in some cases react to, an approved change before it takes effect.
This is a common safeguard against a malicious or mistaken proposal being executed instantly, without any opportunity for review or response.
Examples
- A protocol upgrade might be subject to a 48-hour timelock after a governance vote passes.
- A timelock gives the community a real window to notice and respond to a concerning approved change.
